Tide Flats with TPG

February 18, 2007 at 8:49pm

I saw a post on kevinfreitas.net earlier in the week about a group of Tacoma photographers getting together to take some shots of the tide flats. So not having taken any photos for a couple of weeks I jumped at the idea even though I was feeling a bit under the weather.

We started out at an old abandon drawbridge and worked our way under and over it taking photos of lots of gritty things. Someone in the group of us took a group shot of everyone standing in front of the bridge which should be a pretty cool shot to see. I found an abandon white livingroom chair under the bridge falling apart that looked like someone had set it up to use recently. It made for a great subject and I spend a good chunk of time shooting it.

Next it was a quick stop by an old abandoned brick one story fire house. The fire house was covered is dead vines making for some scary looking scenes.

Folling the fire house we stopped next to some abandoned warehouses that had about half of all of their windows broken and were usually surrounded by odd rusty trash. Again some great texture photos were to be had here.

The last stop was just across the water from the Glass Museum. We got a good look at some of the new condos built along the water and all of the ships parked at the docks.

All in all a good day of picture taking. Originally I was geared up for a bit slower shooting experience an I was wanting to focus on my off camera lighting but I was pleased with the photos that I came home with and it was good to meet some other photographers.

You're right, you were fixated on that chair. I took two of it, and agree with the person who commented that all that little bit of pier the chair was on needed was a footstool, a TV, and beer. :) Good to see someone else noticed that bell light at the firestation.

It's fascinating watching as our photos are posted and we see the same sites through each other's eyes. I love the lighting effects you got with the firehouse window w/leaves. I especially like your photo with both sides of the updrawn bridge...and the close-up of the chair. Well done.

Thanks for the comments Mushroom and Sharon. It is fun to see what shots and angles everyone decided to shoot of the same subject. Group photography is always a great learning experience.
